The Dankurmi Security and Development Association has issued an open letter to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Zamfara State, seeking urgent intervention to address the severe security challenges faced by the Dankurmi community.
In an open letter to the state governor Dauda Lawal signed by Abdullahi Suleiman (Abu Salman) the association congratulated the Governor on completing one year in office and acknowledged his administration’s achievements, particularly in executing various projects and tackling insecurity in the state.
However, they emphasized the dire situation in Dankurmi, which has been under siege for over a decade due to persistent bandit activities.
According to the letter, all routes linking Dankurmi to surrounding areas such as Magami in Gusau LGA, Anka in Anka LGA, and Bena in Dirin Daji, Kebbi State, have been completely shut down by armed bandits.
“This isolation has transformed Dankurmi from a once-thriving agricultural hub into a dangerous area where kidnappings and killings occur daily without adequate security intervention.” the letter said
The association called on the Governor to mobilize additional security personnel, provide patrol vehicles, and deploy at least one Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) to bolster the efforts of military and other security forces in the area.
They also urged for regular air attacks on bandit camps around Bagega and Dansadau to weaken the bandits’ stronghold.
Expressing their faith in the Governor’s ability to resolve these issues, the association rejected attempts by certain individuals to politicize the community’s plight for personal gain.
They highlighted the unsuccessful intervention of the Deputy Governor and the Sole Administrator of Maru LGA, who had previously visited the community.
The Dankurmi Security and Development Association concluded the letter by appealing to the Governor’s sense of justice and equity, hoping that his intervention would bring lasting solutions to their security challenges.
