OPHD troops seek journalists non kinetic support in fighting Banditry in Zamfara

The Commander 1 Brigade Nigerian Army who doubles as the commander Joint task force Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) Zamfara and Kebbi States, Brigadier General Sani Ahmed, seeked the non kinetic support from journalists to end banditry in Zamfara state.

The commander made the plea when he hosted the Chairman and members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ)  Zamfara state council at the Headquarters 1 Brigade on Friday 13 October, 2023 who paid him a courtesy visit.

General S Ahmed urged the journalists to put National Interest first in all their reportage and apply professionalism to support the ongoing military operation through Psychological operations (PSYOP) using their mediums to change the behaviors and thinking of the Bandits and their collaborators.

During the visit, General Sani Ahmed commended the Chairman of the Union Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Maizare and the journalists in working the state for their contributions towards timely dissemination of information on the operational activities of the OPHD troops. 

The brigade Commander also appreciated the journalists for their synergy and support rendered to the Brigade which has aided the operational successes achieved by the troops so far.  He therefore urged them to continue to partner with the troops in ensuring that peace and tranquility are restored in the state.

General Ahmed who insisted on the need for journalists to use their profession for psychological operations to support military operations, said journalists have a vital role to play in the fight against terrorism and to end all forms of criminality in the state and the country as a whole.

“The intensified security operations have led to the bumper harvest of farm produce and we vow to continue conducting harvest and farm patrol until farmers harvest their produce.” General Ahmed added

In his remarks, the chairman Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Zamfara state council, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Maizare commended the efforts of the Nigerian Army in all the successful operations conducted which has yielded positively especially in this year’s farming season, adding that more need to done ensure peaceful Zamfara.
