NSCDC arrests seven suspected vandals in Zamfara

The Zamfara state command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has paraded seven persons suspected to have vandalized government property in Gusau on Monday.

While parading the suspects on behalf of the state Commandant, the spokesperson of the command SC Ikor Oche says they were arrested while they were vandalizing government culverts around Samaru and Garejin Mailena areas in Gusau metropolis.

“The Corps in the pursuit of its core mandates on the 2nd February 2024 arrested a group of vandal syndicates who specialized in destroying culverts and  constructed drainages to excavate iron rods which were used to reinforce the culverts and drainages during constructions.”

“These suspects were arrested on the scene and on the act around Samaru and Garage Mailena areas of Gusau metro. They include; Sani Abubakar (m) 70 years, Bashir Dalhatu (m)18years, Sani Ibrahim (m)61 years, Abdulkadir Gambo(m) 23 years, Ibrahim Saidu(m)  19years, Sani Lawali (m) 22 years, Bello Hassan (m) 48 years.”

“These suspects were apprehended with the following working implements; Shovels, Diggers, Rakes, Hoes, Hammers, Pin Rods and pinches, Machete, Hack saws, Knives etc. Which were being used for the destruction of the drainages and culverts to enable them to excavate the iron rods,” Mr Ikor said.

He added that the suspects will be charged to court on Criminal Trespass and Mischief Contrary to Sections 185 and 380 of the Shariah Penal Code (2000).

While warning the public to refrain from acts of vandalism, Mr Ikor says that the command under the leadership of Sani Mustapha will not rest on its oars on dealing decisively with anyone caught vandalizing government properties in the state.
