Zamfara Applauds Airforce Precision Strikes, Mourns Vigilante Casualties

The Zamfara State Government has lauded the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) for its decisive airstrikes against bandits in Zurmi and Maradun Local Government Areas, while also commiserating with the families of civilian casualties mistakenly targeted during the operation.

In a statement released on Sunday in Gusau, the Governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, praised the military’s efforts under Operation Fansar Yamma, describing the airstrikes as critical in degrading the operational capacity of bandits terrorizing the region.

“We have received multiple positive reports of precision strikes carried out by the Air Component of Operation Fansar Yamma over the weekend in troubled Maradun and Zurmi local government areas,” the statement read.

The government acknowledged the unfortunate loss of lives among members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) and local vigilantes during an airstrike in Tungar Kara, Zurmi LGA.

These civilians, who were mistakenly identified as fleeing bandits, had been providing critical support to the security forces.

Governor Dauda Lawal expressed condolences to the bereaved families and assured them that the state government would offer necessary assistance. “The sacrifices of the deceased will not go in vain,” Idris stated.

The statement further highlighted the government’s commitment to bolstering security through enhanced intelligence sharing, logistical support, and strengthened collaboration between communities and security agencies. It called on citizens to remain vigilant and actively support the ongoing fight against banditry.

The government reaffirmed its resolve to sustain the gains achieved and reiterated its partnership with the Nigerian Air Force and other federal security agencies to restore lasting peace across Zamfara State.
