Zamfara Byelection: APC backs Kamilu for Kaura South as other aspirants withdraw

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State has chosen Hon. Kamilu Sa’idu (Wamban Kasuwar Daji) as its flagbearer for the Kaura Namoda South State Assembly bye-election scheduled for August 16, 2025.

In a statement issued by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris Gusau, Kamilu was declared the sole candidate after his fellow contenders Hon. Bashir Muhammad Madaro (Walin Kurya), Hon. Anas S/Fada, and Alhaji Ashiru Hamisu Habibu withdrew from the race during the primary election held at Kasuwar Daji Primary School.

The three aspirants threw their weight behind Kamilu’s candidacy and expressed their commitment to ensuring the party’s success in the upcoming election.

A total of 30 delegates from the constituency’s six wards; Kagara, Dan-Isa, Sakajiki, Kurya, Kyambarawa, and Banga endorsed his nomination unanimously.

Barr. Babande B. Imam, chairman of the APC National Secretariat Primary Election Committee, officially announced Kamilu as the winner after verifying that the process complied with party rules. The exercise was monitored by INEC officials led by Commissioner Dr. Muhammad Isah.

No objections were raised when the Appeal Committee Chairman, Hon. Isah Halilu Ahmad, asked if there were any complaints regarding the process.

The primary election was peaceful and witnessed by top party leaders including the State APC Chairman, Hon. Tukur Umar Danfulani, as well as party officials and security operatives.
