Former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdul’aziz Yari, has intensified efforts to strengthen security in Zamfara by engaging Islamic clerics to champion peace preaching and community awareness aimed at curbing insecurity across the state.

At a meeting held at his residence in Talata Mafara, Yari urged Imams to support the current administration in restoring peace, emphasizing the critical role of religious leaders in promoting unity, peaceful coexistence, and security consciousness among citizens.
He strongly condemned the activities of informants aiding banditry, calling for deliberate sermons against such acts. Recalling his time as governor, Yari lamented how sensitive security discussions were often leaked. “After our security meetings, bandits would call to say they were aware of what transpired, even from the Government House,” he said.

The senator stressed that both federal and state authorities are counting on religious leaders to foster peace and stability. He appealed to the Imams to dedicate time for prayers and intensify enlightenment campaigns that highlight the dangers of insecurity and the value of harmonious living.
Speaking at the event, the Deputy Governor of the state, Mani Malam Mummuni, who represented Governor Dauda Lawal, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of religious leaders. He disclosed that monthly allowances for Imams, deputies, Mu’azzams, and mosque workers, numbering 11,588 have been tripled to enhance their effectiveness.

He added that over 40 Imams have already been supported with vehicles, with plans for more, while the government is constructing Hisbah offices across all 14 local government areas and at the state headquarters to strengthen moral and security oversight.
Responding on behalf of the clerics, Chairman of Zamfara State Imams, Liman Dan Alhaji Sambo, expressed gratitude to both Yari and Governor Lawal, pledging the Imams’ full cooperation in praying fervently and preaching messages that will promote lasting peace, security, and unity in Zamfara State and beyond.
