Police recover stolen ten-day-old infant in Zamfara

The Zamfara State Police Command has successfully recovered a ten-day-old infant who was stolen from the General Hospital in Kaura Namoda and arrested a female suspect in connection with the crime. The breakthrough followed an intensive investigation launched by the command immediately after a complaint was lodged regarding the baby’s disappearance from the health facility.

The Police Public Relations Officer for the Zamfara State Command, DSP Yazid Abubakar, disclosed this in a press statement issued on behalf of the Commissioner of Police.

According to the police, the recovery of the unharmed infant and the subsequent arrest of the suspect were made possible through credible information provided by public-spirited individuals. This collaborative success highlights the effectiveness of sustained community engagement and intelligence-sharing partnerships between citizens and law enforcement officers.

As part of the initial investigation, hospital staff who were on duty during the incident were invited for questioning by detectives to assist in uncovering the circumstances surrounding the theft. The investigation ultimately led police to Kogin Audu, a nearby hamlet via Kaura Namoda, where the child was found.

The 27-year-old suspect, identified as Asmau Nasiru, is currently in police custody undergoing further interrogation. Preliminary findings by the police indicate that the case involves broader criminal allegations, including human trafficking and baby factory activities.

Meanwhile, the recovered infant has since been safely reunited with the biological parents. The Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmad Muhammad Bello, commended members of the public for their timely support and reiterated the command’s unwavering commitment to eradicating all forms of criminality across Zamfara State.
