The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Zamfara State has arrested two suspects linked to a string of motorcycle thefts, recovering a stolen bike and uncovering a criminal network operating across parts of the state.

The arrests were announced in a press release issued by the spokesperson of the NSCDC Zamfara State Command ASC I Umar Muhammad on behalf of the Commandant Sani Mustapha, as part of ongoing efforts to curb rising cases of motorcycle snatching and related crimes.
According to the statement, Bashir Hassan, also known as Dan Musa, 29, was arrested at the scene of a crime in the Saminaka area of Gusau on April 24. Another suspect, Tanimu Muhammadu, 25, was apprehended two days later at Nasarawa Burkullu market in Bukkuyyum while attempting to flee.

Investigations revealed that Hassan was in possession of a suspected stolen Boxer Bajaj motorcycle and is believed to be part of a syndicate involved in motorcycle theft. He reportedly named four accomplices who are currently at large, with efforts ongoing to track them down.
The syndicate was said to operate by posing as passengers, often in pairs, before attacking commercial motorcyclists and forcefully seizing their motorcycles. Authorities linked the group to several incidents that occurred between April 22 and 24 in areas around Huda University and Tudun Wada in Gusau.
The NSCDC also disclosed that one of the victims was seriously injured during an attack and is currently receiving treatment at the Yeriman Bakura Specialist Hospital in Gusau after being struck on the head and rendered unconscious.
In a separate confession, Tanimu Muhammadu admitted to disguising as a passenger before tricking a commercial motorcyclist and fleeing with a black and white Bajaj motorcycle. He was arrested shortly after by NSCDC operatives. The command confirmed the recovery of one stolen motorcycle valued at over one million naira, adding that investigations are ongoing to arrest other members of the syndicate and recover additional stolen property.
Reaffirming its stance, the NSCDC emphasized its zero tolerance for criminal activities, noting that all suspects will be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
