The Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Funminiyi Afuye is dead.The Speaker, Afuye died Wednesday evening at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Ado- Ekiti, where he was receiving treatment after suffering a cardiac arrest.
The late Speaker was seen in Ado Ekiti yesterday (Tuesday) attending a government function with the newly sworn-in Governor, Biodun Oyebanji.Late speaker Aged, 66, was representing Ikere Constituency 2 in the State House of Assembly.
He held several positions to include Majority Leader of the House of Assembly under the administration of Engr. Segun Oni and served as Commissioner of Information and later Intergovernmental Affairs during Dr. Kayode Fayemi’s first administration in Ekiti.He returned to the State House of Assembly in 2019 with the second advent of Fayemi in Ekiti and became the Speaker.
The death of the Late Speaker has caused a huge shock within Ekiti State political and government circles.
Report suggested that one of his children is getting married this coming weekend in Lagos.
