Governor Dauda Lawal has called on the Zamfara State Council of Ulama to collaborate with his administration in efforts to rescue and rebuild the state.
This appeal was made during the inauguration of the newly reconstituted Zamfara State Ulama Consultative Council at the government house in Gusau on Tuesday.
In a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the governor highlighted the critical advisory role of the Ulama Council in guiding government decisions to align with religious principles.
The Council, established in 2003, has been influential in shaping state policies and providing moral, spiritual, and economic guidance.
Governor Lawal expressed his appreciation for the Ulama Council’s contributions over the past 21 years, emphasizing its significant impact on the state and society. He assured the Council of his administration’s openness to their advice on state policies and the welfare of the people.
“As we gather here today, I am filled with profound gratitude to Almighty Allah for granting us the opportunity to inaugurate the newly reconstituted Council of Ulama,” said Governor Lawal.
He noted that the Council, established under Law Number 6 of 2003, plays a crucial role in strengthening Sharia implementation in Zamfara State.
The Council’s responsibilities include screening and advising on the qualifications of Sharia court Alkali candidates, issuing fatwas on Islamic jurisprudence, and providing advice on the conformity of state laws with Sharia principles.
Additionally, the Council receives research findings on new developments related to technological advancement and other contemporary issues.
Governor Lawal urged the religious leaders to continue their dedicated service with passion and commitment. “You are all esteemed Islamic scholars that society looks up to for moral and spiritual guidance. You should not rest on your laurels in carrying out your responsibilities as members of the Council of Ulama and as the pillars of society,” he stated.
