Former governor and current Senator representing Zamfara West Senatorial District, Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar, has donated 200 trucks of maize for direct distribution to residents across Zamfara State.
In a statement signed and made available to SMARTS NEWS by the Chairman, Publicity Committee of the AA Yari Political Organization, Hon. Ibrahim Muhammad, (Danmadamin Birnin Magaji), said the donation was aimed at providing relief to the state’s population, particularly in the wake of recent challenges including severe flooding and rising food prices.
According to him the announcement of the gesture was made known by Hon. Lawal M. Liman (Gabdon Kaura), Chairman of the state distribution committee and leader of the A A Yari political organization, during a meeting with state and local government distribution committees in Gusau, the state capital, on Wednesday, September 4, 2024.
Hon. Lawal detailed the distribution plan, stating that the local government areas of Gusau, Gummi, and Talata Mafara will each receive 20 trucks of maize. The remaining 11 local government areas in the state will each be allocated 12 trucks.
“The distribution is set to benefit a total of 230,400 people, with 1,000 beneficiaries in each of the 147 electoral wards in the 11 LGAs receiving 12 trucks, while the three LGAs receiving 20 trucks will have 1,500 beneficiaries per ward.” M Liman stated
The Chairman further highlighted that the donation was prompted by the need to ease the suffering of the people, particularly in light of the recent flooding in Gummi and the escalating cost of food items in the market and the donation is expected to help stabilize food prices and provide much-needed relief to the affected communities.
Hon. Lawal also urged members of the distribution committees to conduct the exercise with integrity, ensuring that the maize reaches all citizens, regardless of their religious or political affiliations.
