President Bola Tinubu has announced the appointment of new Directors-General for Nigeria’s top intelligence agencies, the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the Department of State Services (DSS).
In a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on media and publicity, Chief Ajuri Ngelale said, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed has been named the new Director-General of the NIA, while Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi takes over as the Director-General of the DSS.
These appointments follow the recent resignation of the previous heads of the agencies.
Ambassador Mohammed, a seasoned diplomat with nearly three decades of experience, joined the NIA in 1995. He has served in various capacities, including as the head of the Nigerian mission to Libya. His international experience includes postings in North Korea, Pakistan, Sudan, and service at the State House in Abuja. He holds a degree from Bayero University, Kano, obtained in 1990.
Mr. Ajayi, who now leads the DSS, has steadily climbed the ranks within the service, most recently serving as Assistant Director-General. His career in the DSS includes key leadership roles as State Director in Bauchi, Enugu, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Kogi states.
In his statement, President Tinubu expressed confidence in the newly appointed security chiefs, urging them to leverage their vast experience to address Nigeria’s security challenges. He emphasized the importance of enhanced collaboration with other agencies and alignment with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).
The President also extended his gratitude to the outgoing Directors-General for their service to the nation and wished them success in their future endeavors.
The appointments are seen as part of President Tinubu’s ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture in the face of growing internal and external challenges.
