Police Rescue Six Kidnap Victims, Recover Stolen Motorcycle In Zamfara

Operatives of the Violence Crimes Response Unit from the Zamfara State Police Command have successfully rescued six kidnapped individuals and recovered a stolen motorcycle during a swift anti-banditry operation.

The victims were intercepted by heavily armed bandits along the Anka–Gurusu Road while traveling from Mayanchi Village in the Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State to Zuru Local Government Area in Kebbi State.

According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Zamfara State Command, Gusau, the rescue followed credible intelligence received at about 4:30 PM on June 11, 2026. Police operatives quickly mobilized to the scene, traced the bandits, and engaged them in a fierce gun duel.

Faced with the superior firepower of the police team, the criminals fled into the surrounding forest with various degrees of injuries, abandoning all six victims and one of the two motorcycles they had stolen. While the fleeing bandits managed to escape with the second motorcycle, the police confirmed that efforts are currently ongoing to track down the suspects, apprehend them, and recover the remaining property.

The command re-emphasized its commitment to wiping out banditry and urged the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely information.
