Zamfara assembly redrafts bills after Governor Dauda’s observations

The Zamfara State House of Assembly has resolved to redraft several bills earlier approved by the legislature following observations raised by the state governor Governor Dauda Lawal.

Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Bilyaminu Ismail Moriki, presented the governor’s message during a plenary session, stating that the redrafting aligns with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria (as amended).

The bills affected include laws establishing the Zamfara State Schools Quality Assurance Authority, Senior Secondary Schools Education Board, and amendments to the Zamfara State Teachers Service Board, Security Trust Fund, and Local Government Appropriation Law.

Bello Madaro Kurya, the chief press secretary to the speaker of the house in a press statement he released said, the Speaker referred the bills to the relevant House standing committees, including Education, Justice and Judiciary, Security, and Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, for further review.

The committees were given one week to incorporate the governor’s observations and report back for legislative action.

Meanwhile, the assembly passed the Zamfara Urban and Regional Planning Authority Bill after its third and final reading.

The bill was reviewed by the House Standing Committees on Land, Survey, Housing, and Urban Development, alongside Justice and Judiciary, with input from relevant stakeholders.

The sitting was presided over by Speaker Moriki, who directed the Clerk of the House, Alhaji Mahmud Aliyu, to process the approved bill.

The House later adjourned its session until March 3, 2025.
