An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detonated along the Bagega-Anka road in Zamfara State, targeting a commercial vehicle and resulting in multiple casualties.
While local eyewitnesses initially reported a higher death toll of 9 persons involving striking dismemberment, the Zamfara State Police Command has officially confirmed that six individuals were killed and six others sustained various degrees of injury. Those injured were evacuated to a nearby medical facility where they are currently receiving emergency treatment.
The explosion occurred against a backdrop of escalating banditry. Local residents report that the area has been under a state of virtual siege since a bandit attack on a military base near Bagega village last week.
The subsequent intensity of fighting between security forces and armed groups has created a high-tension environment, forcing villagers to rely on military escorts for essential travel to ensure their safety from persistent threats.
In response to the blast, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, stated that the command’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was swiftly mobilized to the scene. The team conducted a thorough sweep of the route to detect and neutralize any secondary devices, eventually clearing the road for public use.
Additionally, special tactical teams and sister security agencies have been deployed to the area to conduct confidence-building patrols and restore normalcy to the troubled axis.
