Troops kill scores of terrorists, including Bello Turji’s son

On January 17, 2025, troops of Operation Fansan Yamma, in coordination with the air component, conducted a series of clearance operations targeting terrorist hideouts along the Shinkafi, Kagara, Fakai, Moriki, Maiwa, and Chindo axis in Zamfara State.

According to Major General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, the operation resulted in the deaths of scores of terrorists, including the son of notorious bandit leader Bello Turji.

The troops’ firepower was instrumental in inflicting heavy casualties on the terrorists and destroying their logistics hub on Fakai high ground.

Several kidnapped hostages held by Turji’s gang were also rescued during the operation. Turji himself reportedly fled the scene, abandoning his son and other fighters. In a related development, troops dismantled another terrorist camp led by Idi Mallam in the Zango Kagara Forest.

During the operation, three terrorists were neutralized, and three suspected collaborators were arrested.

Security forces recovered two machine guns, an AK-47 rifle with a magazine containing 11 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and rescued 61 rustled cattle and 44 sheep, among other items.

The Defence Headquarters reiterated its commitment to safeguarding citizens, noting that troops will sustain their offensive operations to dismantle terrorist networks and restore peace across the country.
