
The Zamfara State Police Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, has successfully foiled a coordinated attack by armed bandits on Kanoma Town and Gidan Daji Village in the Maru Local Government Area of the state.
According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Zamfara State Command, the joint security team engaged the criminals in a fierce gun battle, neutralizing six of them.
The encounter began on Tuesday, at approximately 11:00 a.m. when a large band of criminals armed with heavy weaponry, including Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPGs), General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs), anti-aircraft guns, and AK-47 rifles invaded the communities.
In response to a distress call, a combined force consisting of Police Tactical Operatives from the Maru Division, military personnel from Operation Fansar Yamma, operatives from the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU), and local vigilantes swiftly mobilized under the leadership of the Divisional Police Officer.
The security forces successfully repelled the invasion and forced the attackers to retreat. During the gun duel, six bandits riding on two motorcycles were killed, while numerous others fled into the surrounding forests with suspected gunshot wounds. Notably, no casualties were recorded among the residents or the security operatives.
Following the incident, security has been reinforced in the general area with intensive patrols to ensure lasting peace and track down the fleeing suspects. The Police Command has reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, urging local residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies with timely information.
