Fire has destroyed parts of the residence of the Speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, Rt. Honourable Bilyaminu Ismail Moriki, in Gusau, the state capital. The incident occurred over the weekend, causing extensive damage to the apartment but no casualties.
In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the speaker, Bello Madaro, the Clerk of the House, Alhaji Mahmud Aliyu, expressed shock on behalf of the Assembly and its staff, calling the event a tragic calamity.
He described it as an act destined by Allah, extending sympathy to the Speaker, his family, and his constituents in Zurmi West. Many political figures and well-wishers have since visited the Speaker to offer their condolences.
Speaker Moriki expressed gratitude to Allah that no lives were lost and thanked all those who helped contain the fire. The blaze destroyed properties worth millions of naira.
