Gov Dauda swears in new commissioner Kasimu, reshuffles cabinet in Zamfara

Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has carried out a minor cabinet reshuffle, swearing in a new commissioner and reassigning portfolios to other senior officials.

The changes were announced during the State Executive Council meeting on Monday, December 9, 2024.Kasimu Sani Kaura, the newly sworn-in commissioner, will assume the role of Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources.

His appointment follows the resignation of Mannir Muazu Haidara, who vacated the position to pursue his election as Chairman of Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.

Governor Lawal expressed confidence in Kaura’s abilities, citing his dedicated service to both his community and the state as key factors in his selection.

In his address during the swearing-in ceremony, the governor emphasized that Kaura’s appointment aligns with the administration’s commitment to utilizing the knowledge and skills of capable citizens to achieve the state’s development goals.

“I urge the new Commissioner to rededicate himself to serving the people. As a central member of the rescue mission, I do not doubt that he will give his best for the benefit of all,” Governor Lawal remarked, offering his congratulations and prayers for guidance in Kaura’s new role.

As part of the cabinet reshuffle, the governor also announced several other changes in key ministries. Hon. Mahmud Mohammed Abdullahi, formerly Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, has been reassigned to the Ministry of Information and Culture. Hon. Nasiru Ibrahim Zurmi has taken over the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, while Hon. Kabiru Moyi will now head the Ministry of Project Monitoring and Implementation.

In another adjustment, Dr. Nafisa Muhammad has been appointed Commissioner for Health, taking over from Dr. Aisha M. Za Anka, who will now lead the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.

Governor Lawal stated that the reshuffling was based on a careful assessment of the skills and performance of all senior government officials. He emphasized on the importance of these changes in enhancing the effectiveness of the administration in delivering on its mandates.

He also reminded his appointees that their performance will be regularly monitored as the administration moves closer to its mid-term.“All hand-over protocols are to be concluded within seven days,” the governor stated, urging all officials to continue working diligently for the betterment of the people of Zamfara State.
