The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has debunked the rumour that it fixed March 4 for runoff election for Zamfara Central Senatorial district and Gusau/Tsafe federal constituency runoff elections.
The Commission’s Public Relations Officer in Zamfara, Muktar Samaila Janyau told SMARTS NEWS in a phone call inquiry that the information in circulation didn’t emanate from the Commission.
“The (said) date is unofficial. The National Headquarters of INEC Abuja is responsible for fixing the date for the rerun and they didn’t communicate (on the matter) yet,” Mr Janyau authoritatively said.
Zamfara Central Senatorial district election and that of Gusau/Tsafe federal constituency were declared inconclusive on Monday by their respective Returning Officers following cancellation of result for some polling units whose total registers voters exceeds the margins between the leading candidates and their respective runners-up.
