Operation fansan yamma seeks community support in fight against banditry

The Theatre Commander of Operation Fansan Yamma, Major General Oluyinka Olalekan Soyele, has appealed for greater community support in the ongoing fight against terrorism and banditry in Nigeria’s North West region.

He made the call during a courtesy visit by the Nigerian Legion’s Zamfara State chapter, led by Aminu Ladan Mada, on November 27, 2024, in Gusau.

According to a press release issued by Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre, Major General Soyele emphasized the reorganization of previous operations that included Operation Hadarin Daji and Whirl Punch into Operation Fansan Yamma. The restructuring, he explained, was aimed at enhancing coordination and response to security challenges across the North West and Niger State.

He noted significant progress, particularly in reducing banditry along the Gusau-Funtua highway, and assured that troops remain on high alert to deliver on the operation’s objectives, relying heavily on local collaboration and intelligence.

During the visit, Aminu Ladan Mada conveyed condolences on behalf of the Nigerian Legion for the recent death of the former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja. He lauded Major General Soyele’s leadership and pledged the Legion’s support for Operation Fansan Yamma, stressing the critical role of synergy between security forces and local communities in ensuring a secure environment.

Mada also commended the Defense Headquarters for restructuring security operations in the region, describing it as a necessary step to optimize resources and foster effective collaboration in tackling insecurity.
