NDI, KDI Push for Electoral Reform at NUJ National Secretariat

Two civil society groups, the National Democratic Institute (NDI) and its Nigerian partner, Kimpact Developmental Initiative (KDI) have called for stronger collaboration with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to promote electoral reforms and youth participation in governance.

During a visit to the NUJ National Secretariat on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, the delegation, led by NDI Programs Director Mr. Bem Aga and KDI Program Director Lady Sannom Sarki, discussed ways to strengthen existing partnerships and explore new areas of cooperation, especially on electoral reform.

Mr. Aga highlighted NDI’s commitment to working closely with the NUJ under the leadership of Comrade Alhassan Yahya to achieve common goals. He said the partnership with KDI focuses on encouraging Nigerian youths to engage more in the democratic process.

Lady Sarki shared details of KDI’s ongoing efforts, including nationwide consultations and a survey of over 4,000 youths, aimed at gathering opinions on the electoral process to inform meaningful reforms. She requested the NUJ’s support in spreading awareness and mobilizing stakeholders.

NUJ President Comrade Alhassan Yahya welcomed the groups and promised full cooperation. He also invited them to make a presentation at the Union’s upcoming National Executive Council meeting.

The visit ended with a photo session and presentation of mobilization materials, with all parties hopeful that the renewed partnership will lead to positive change in governance, youth engagement, and media collaboration.
