Terrorists have abducted an unspecified number of worshippers at a Jumu’at mosque in Zugu, Zamfara State, Northwest Nigeria on Friday, Sept. 2, 2022.
Among those kidnapped was the second Imam of the mosque, at about 1:45 p.m. Eyewitnesses could not ascertain the correct number of persons taken.
Lukuman Zugu and Murtala Ibrahim, both residents at the mosque, told HumAngle that “they [Terrorists] came on foot while holding their guns right inside their gowns. They began to shoot in the air and terrified us. In the process, they carted away people who were mostly outside the mosque area.”
Bello Husaini, a resident of Zugu who was also at the mosque when the attack took place, said: “it took a while without recording any incidence of attack in Zugu town, because our Divisional Police Officer of Bukuyum LGA and his personnel have been visiting the area. Today’s attack is just unfortunate, though, from God.”
Another resident in the area, Malam Tukur Usman, added that “we promptly saw the Security team of the Nigerian Police in collaboration with the Nigerian Army in a quick response operation. I think they are presently in the bush on a rescue mission.”

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Zamfara State Police Command, Mohammed Shehu, could not be reached by phone as at the time this report was filed.
However, Usman Modibbo Halilu, the Divisional Police Officer of Bukuyum LGA, confirmed the incident. “Our network has been fluctuating, which made us unable to communicate with our Police Headquarters in Gusau,” he said.
