Breaking: INEC postpones gov’ship, state assembly election for BVAS configuration

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reached a decision to postpone Governorship and state House of Assembly election to March 18 to have enough time for Bimodal voter accreditation system (BVAS) configuration.

Although the decision was not officially disclosed, an official from INEC Headquarters Abuja who pleaded anonymity because he was not authorized to speak confided this to SMARTS NEWS on Wednesday.

This decision was taken so that the Commission can get reasonable time to reconfigure BVAS which couldn’t be reconfigured due to legal issues as the presidential candidate of the labour party, Mr Peter Obi has objected to the request by the INEC to reconfigure the devices ahead of Saturday’s poll.

SMARTS NEWS reports that the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja and presided over by Justice Joseph Ikyegh gave INEC the permission to reconfigure the BVAS and upload their data on the back end server.
