
The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) has appointed Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, as its Grand Patron for the Kebbi State Council.
NUJ National President, Alhaji Alhassan Yahaya-Abdullahi, presented the certificate of appointment to Governor Idris during a ceremony in Abuja.
Speaking at the event, Yahaya-Abdullahi noted that the honor recognizes the governor’s exceptional contributions to unionism and his commitment to improving the welfare of the people.
“This investiture is a resolution of the NUJ National Executive Council, honoring someone who has paid his dues in unionism and struggles,” he stated.
He also lauded Governor Idris for his achievements in infrastructure development and his support for traditional institutions, describing his governance as inclusive and development-focused.
In his acceptance speech, Governor Idris expressed gratitude to the NUJ leadership for the recognition, emphasizing on the strong partnership between his administration and the union.
He described the honor as historic, being his first award of 2025, and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for journalism and other developmental activities in Kebbi State.
“Kebbi is a labor-friendly state led by a comrade governor, and I assure you of our continued partnership,” the governor said.
He approved the NUJ’s request to hold meetings in Kebbi, emphasizing his administration’s open-door policy.A veteran labor leader, Governor Idris has served as State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and as Deputy National President of the NLC, eventually becoming President of the NUT.
His extensive unionist background indicates his dedication to collaborative leadership and progressive policies.
