Police restores normalcy at fed University Gusau, begins rescue operation

Zamfara state police command said, the security of the federal University Gusau has been intensified and normalcy was restored after the abduction of students by bandits.

In a press release signed and made available to SMARTS NEWS by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) ASP Yazid Abubakar saying the command has taken measures to ensure safe release of the kidnapped students.

ASP Yazid noted that the commissioner of Police Zamfara State Police Command, CP Muhammad Shehu Dalijan has took Proactive measures to avoid the reoccurrence of the incident. 

Noting the the Commissioner of Police and his management team have visited the scene to assess the situation and redeployed more tactical squards to the university.

The PPRO recalled that on 22 Sept, 2023 at about 0250hrs suspected Armed Bandits on about fifty 50 Motorcycles carrying sophisticated weapons invaded three residents of students’ rented apartments in Sabon Gida Village near the Federal University Gusau and kidnapped unspecified numbers of students to an unknown destination. 

Adding that the bandits also entered the University premises and ransacked some offices as the school is unfenced.  However, 7 students were rescued and have been reunited with the management of the university.

The  command therefore appealed to the good people of the state to support the police with vital information as the command in collaboration with the other security agencies and state government wil do everything possible to protect lives and property and salvage the state from all forms of crimes and criminality.
