The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Zamfara State command, has arrested and paraded two suspects for their involvement in the fabrication of false evidence, criminal conspiracy, and breach of official trust.
During a press briefing today (Tuesday) the Civil Defence Public Relations Officer (CDPRO) SC Ikor Oche said the suspects, Bashir Bala and Usman Mohammed, both residents of Gusau, were accused of attempting to lay false claim to 40 rustled cows using forged documents.
The forged document, purportedly originating from the Marafan Gobir Hakimi Sabon Birnin Local Government of Sokoto State, was presented by Bashir Bala at the Zakat and Endowment Board, where rustled animals are kept for legitimate owners to claim.
However, upon preliminary investigation, it was revealed that the document was indeed falsified.
Bashir Bala confessed during interrogation that he received the forged document from Usman Mohammed, also known as Alhaji Gede, a member of the committee. Usman Mohammed, in turn, admitted to conspiring with Bala to falsely claim ownership of the rustled cows.
“These actions are in violation of sections 121, 63, and 59 of the Zamfara State Penal Code Law No. 18 of 2024.
“Commandant Sani Mustapha, leading the NSCDC in Zamfara State, emphasized the agency’s commitment to combating all forms of criminal activities within the state.” CDPRO stated.
He warned individuals engaging in such fraudulent practices to desist, as the NSCDC will vigorously pursue and prosecute anyone found guilty under the laws of the federation.
Adding that the suspects will face prosecution at the conclusion of the ongoing investigations in a competent court of jurisdiction. Noting that the NSCDC reaffirmed its dedication to upholding justice and maintaining security in Zamfara State.
