The Zamfara State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointment of Bala Aliyu Gusau as the new Chairman of the Zamfara State Independent Electoral Commission (ZASIEC).
In a statement signed and made available to SMARTS NEWS by the Chief Press Secretary, Zamfara State House of Assembly, Bello Madaro Kurya His appointment follows a request presented by House Majority Leader, Honourable Bello Muhammad Mazawajje Tsafe, and seconded by Minority Whip, Honourable Nura Dahiru Sabon Birni Dan Ali.
The confirmation comes in response to a message from Governor Dauda Lawal, sent through the office of the Secretary to the State Government, Malam Abubakar M. Nakwada. The new appointment became necessary following the death of the former ZASIEC Chairman, Honourable Sani Ibrahim Ruwan Doruwa.
During the presentation, Honourable Mazawajje highlighted the importance of confirming the nominee to ensure ZASIEC can function in accordance with the law, particularly in preparation for the upcoming local government elections. He also praised Bala Aliyu Gusau’s extensive experience, noting that his nomination was based on merit.
After the nominee presented his Curriculum Vitae, Speaker of the House, Right Honourable Bilyaminu Ismail Moriki, directed Gusau to take a bow, and his appointment was unanimously approved by the House.
