Zamfara govt detects 2,363 ghost workers including 220 minors in payroll audit

The Zamfara State Government has detected and identified 2,363 ghost workers following a payroll verification exercise, saving the state over N200 million monthly.

Sulaiman Bala Idris, the spokesperson of the state governor Dauda Lawal, disclosed this in a statement he issued, noting that the exercise exposed various irregularities, including 220 minors receiving salaries as civil servants.

The verification, led by the state’s Head of Service, found that 1,082 workers were due for retirement but still on the payroll, alongside contract staff, study leave absentees, and those without proper records.

The government has suspended 207 workers pending further investigation. The exercise, according to the statement, is part of broader efforts to enhance transparency as the government prepares to implement the N70,000 minimum wage.
