Zamfara Police Vow to Safeguard Farmers Ahead of Rainy Season

The Zamfara State Police Command has unveiled a renewed and robust security strategy aimed at protecting farmers and rural communities as the rainy farming season approaches.

Commissioner of Police, Ahmad Muhammad Bello, gave the assurance during his maiden courtesy visit to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Zamfara State Council. He outlined a series of proactive measures designed to restore peace and strengthen safety across the state.

Bello disclosed that the command is set to deploy special tactical operations targeting persistent threats such as banditry, kidnapping, and cattle rustling crimes that have long disrupted farming activities and rural life.

He expressed optimism about the impact of the new strategy, stating that residents would witness improvements in security within the next two to three months. According to him, recent attacks in parts of the state will be decisively addressed, with a firm commitment to reclaim affected communities and restore normalcy.

The police chief also called for greater public cooperation, emphasizing that timely information sharing and community support are essential in the fight against crime.

Highlighting the role of the media, Bello described journalists as indispensable partners in promoting accountability and public awareness. He stressed that effective communication remains a powerful tool in combating insecurity and misinformation.

Reaffirming his commitment to transparency, Bello assured that the police command remains accessible to both journalists and citizens at all times, noting that public trust is key to successful policing.

He further underscored the strong connection between security and development, warning that meaningful progress in any sector cannot be achieved without a safe and stable environment.

Bello urged media practitioners to provide constructive criticism that would support ongoing reforms and contribute to the state’s efforts to rebuild its economy and attract investment.

In response, NUJ Chairman Ibrahim Musa Maizare commended the visit, describing it as timely and significant. He reaffirmed the commitment of journalists in Zamfara to collaborate with security agencies in promoting peace, security, and development.

Maizare emphasized that the media remains a crucial stakeholder in addressing insecurity and pledged continued partnership to ensure effective information dissemination and public enlightenment.

As the farming season draws near, the police command’s renewed commitment is expected to boost confidence among farmers and residents. However, observers note that the success of these efforts will depend largely on sustained collaboration between security agencies, the media, and local communities.
