Charity Day: Zamfara First Lady Huriyya Supports Elderly, Less Privileged

The First Lady of Zamfara State, Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal, has marked the 2025 International Day of Charity with an outreach to the elderly and less privileged through her foundation, the Huriyya Dauda Lawal Initiative, in collaboration with the Northern Governors’ Wives Forum.

The statement was issued by Rabi Yusuf, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Press to the First Lady, on Friday in Gusau.The programme, themed “Speeding Global Generosity and Strengthening Community Support,” took place in the state capital where food items including rice, spaghetti, sugar, vegetable oil, and cash donations were distributed to vulnerable households.

Speaking on behalf of the First Lady, Hajiya Hadiza Abubakar (Hadiza Mai H), Senior Special Assistant on Women Mobilisation, said charity goes beyond giving, stressing it is about restoring dignity, strengthening community ties, and ensuring no one is forgotten.

Beneficiaries expressed gratitude, describing the intervention as timely and reassuring. The First Lady reaffirmed her commitment to sustaining support for marginalized groups through impactful initiatives.

The collaboration between the Northern Governors’ Wives Forum and the Huriyya Dauda Lawal Initiative, she noted, reflects the importance of collective action in addressing humanitarian needs across northern Nigeria.

The International Day of Charity, observed annually on September 5, highlights the global role of philanthropy in reducing poverty and promoting social solidarity.
