Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, on Saturday, conducted a visit to communities in Gummi Local Government Area (LGA) that were recently devastated by flooding. The floods, triggered by heavy rainfall last week, submerged numerous houses, leaving many residents in urgent need of assistance.
The governor’s visit began with a courtesy call to the Emir of Gummi, His Royal Highness Justice Lawal Hassan, before touring the affected areas to assess the damage and sympathize with the victims.
During his visit, Governor Lawal expressed deep concern over the widespread destruction caused by the floods. He announced that a team of engineers had already been dispatched to the area to investigate the causes of the flooding and devise a long-term solution to prevent future occurrences.
“Today, I am in Gummi LGA to offer my condolences and conduct an on-the-spot assessment of the communities devastated by the recent flooding,” the governor said. He added that immediate steps would be taken to prevent a recurrence of such a disaster.
In response to the crisis, Governor Lawal announced a donation of N100 million from the Zamfara State Government to support the affected victims. He also revealed that 10,000 bags of food items, including rice, maize, and millet, had been dispatched to Gummi for distribution among the victims.
Additionally, the governor promised to allocate land to those who had lost their homes, enabling them to rebuild in safer locations.
