The Sokoto State Government has installed new FM transmitters and provided modern digital equipment for Rima Radio and Rima Television (RTV) to enhance broadcast quality, expand coverage, and improve information dissemination across the state.
Governor Ahmad Aliyu, represented by his Deputy, Idris Muhammad Gobir, disclosed this during the first historic joint anniversary marking 47 years of Rima Radio, 24 years of Rima Television, and 22 years of Rima FM, alongside an awards presentation ceremony held at the Sokoto State Media Corporation headquarters.
The Governor noted that the state government has also provided operational vehicles to the Media Corporation to improve mobility and ensure wider coverage of events across the state. He added that the administration is undertaking the renovation of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) administrative block, which was damaged by fire, to restore the facility to full operational status.
Governor Aliyu commended the Sokoto State Media Corporation and other media organisations for their commitment to promoting government policies, programmes, and achievements, as well as for educating and enlightening the citizens. He emphasized that objective and responsible journalism remains vital to sustaining public trust, social harmony, and democratic values.
Earlier in his address, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Sambo Bello Danchadi, said the state government has taken bold steps to strengthen its information machinery by revitalising state-owned media organisations to enhance public information services.
He described the media as a cornerstone of an informed citizenry, partners in governance, and a platform for expressing the hopes and aspirations of the people. According to him, Governor Ahmad Aliyu recognises the media as a critical partner in implementing his strategic agenda and ensuring that the voices of the people are heard clearly.
The Commissioner further disclosed that the government has upgraded studio facilities at the Ministry of Information headquarters, established official online media platforms for the ministry, and commenced the publication of a quarterly government bulletin titled “The Informer”. He added that the state recently launched social media training programmes for information officers, with emphasis on ethical online engagement and digital literacy.
Highlights of the event included the presentation of merit awards to prominent personalities, among them the Minister of State for Works, Hon. Barrister Bello Muhammad Goronyo; Ambassador Sahabi Isah Gada; Alhaji Abdulkadir Abubakar Jelani Kalgo; and Professor Almustapha A. Aliyu, in recognition of their outstanding contributions.
