The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shuaibu, has donated 400 bags of fertilizer to farmers in the Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State to bolster food production and cement civil-military relations.

The gesture was detailed in a statement released on Thursday by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, saying the intervention was executed through the Theatre Command of the Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), to support agrarian communities that have been disproportionately affected by regional insecurity.

According to the statement, the distribution took place at the Palace of the Emir of Maru as part of the Nigerian Army’s corporate social responsibility aimed at improving the livelihoods of locals ahead of the 2026 farming season.
Representing the Theatre Commander, Major General Warrah Idris, the Deputy Theatre Commander, Air Vice Marshal Usman Abdullahi, emphasized that the initiative was a symbol of the Armed Forces’ commitment to rebuilding hope. He noted that while the military remains aggressive in its kinetic operations against terrorism across the North West, it is equally dedicated to non-kinetic strategies that empower citizens and strengthen the local economy.

The military leadership urged beneficiaries to utilize the supplies effectively to ensure a bumper harvest, while also calling on the public to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with the timely information necessary to sustain the current peace.
Responding to the donation, the Vice Chairman of Maru Local Government Area, Honourable Laminu Dansadau, described the timing of the intervention as commendable, noting that it would provide much-needed relief to farmers. Similarly, the Emir of Maru, His Royal Highness Alhaji Abubakar Gado Maigari, expressed his gratitude to the COAS, assuring the military command that the fertilizer would be distributed transparently to genuine farmers within the emirate to ensure the gesture yields the intended impact on food security.
