Mojisola Meranda, representing Apapa State Constituency I, has been appointed as his successor. Hon. Fatai Mojeed, the Deputy Chief Whip, has been elected as the new Deputy Speaker.
According to Daily Trust, Obasa’s fall from grace follows his controversial remarks regarding the 2027 Lagos governorship race. In November of last year, during the presentation of the 2025 budget by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Obasa sparked a debate by declaring that he was neither too young nor inexperienced to run for governor, adding that his predecessors were not necessarily better than him.
Obasa further clarified that his involvement with the Mandate platform was aimed at party-building and not a personal bid for the governorship. He emphasized that while becoming governor was not his primary goal, he was not opposed to it and rejected claims that his political ambitions were selfish or aimed at securing a familial connection in Ojo.
Obasa also faced criticism over allegations of mismanagement, including spending N17 billion on a gate to the Assembly complex, as well as claims of mishandling constituency funds and projects.
