In his efforts to address the current hardship being faced by the people and to develop an economic roadmap for the state, the Governor of Sokoto State, Dr Ahmed Aliyu, has on Sunday inaugurated the state’s economic advisory council.
Speaking while inaugurating the committee at the council chamber, Sokoto Government House, the Governor lamented over lack of economic data and poor tax collection in the state.
He said his government has been servicing debts inherited from the immediate past administration since inception, urging the council to proffer workable solutions for these challenges.
“I urge you to exceed our expectations and offer the vital guidance needed to expedite the economic progress for the state.
“I also urge you to use your diverse experience in finance, commerce and industry for the development of the state in line with my administration’s strategic agenda,” he added.
In his remarks, chairman of the council, Alhaji Bello Maccido, assured the Governor that they would do everything possible to advise the government on what to do to reverse the fortune of the state and put it on a solid path to economic prosperity.
“We will be advising on the sectors of focus and on innovative financial solutions that will help the state, broadening its sources of financing,” he reassured
He also assured the Governor that they would not disappoint the state.
Other members of the 19 men committee include, Umar Ajiya of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited who is to serve as alternate chairman; the immediate past Vice Chancellor of Usman Danfodiyo University, Professor Lawal Bilbis.
Others include, Sen. Ibrahim Gobir., Abdulkar J Bello, Abdullahi Aminu Tafida, Sen Ibrahim Danbaba, Prof Nasiru Yauri, Muhammad Kurfi, Abdulrahman Musa Bashir, Olaseni Oduwole, Alh Faruk A. maishanu and Commissioners of finance , Budget, Innovation and Digital Economy, Justice among others.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Economic, Dr Bashir Achida would serve as it’s secretary.
