Zamfara launches Youth-Driven sanitation initiative

Governor Dauda Lawal has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to environmental sustainability by launching the Zamfara Youth Sanitation Programme (ZAYOSAP).

The initiative, unveiled on Tuesday at the Government House in Gusau, is part of the broader “Keep Zamfara Clean” campaign.

In a statement by the governor’s spokesman, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the program’s rollout included distributing ten dumping trucks, four sweeping machines, two sweeping trucks, and 65 motorcycles.

Additionally, the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project contributed 450 plastic trash bins for public offices and 55 iron-steel trash bins for urban areas.

Governor Dauda described the program as a transformative effort to empower youth and enhance public hygiene. “This initiative goes beyond improving sanitation; it creates employment opportunities, fosters entrepreneurship, and equips our youth with valuable skills and responsibility towards their communities,” he said.

He urged stakeholders, including community leaders and traditional rulers, to support the initiative, highlighting the importance of clean streets, markets, and public spaces in promoting a progressive society.

The governor also expressed hope that the program would inspire similar efforts in other states, contributing to national environmental sustainability.
