Zamfara Police, Military Repel Attack, Recover 329 Rustled Cattle, 175 sheep, Rifle

The Zamfara State Police Command, through its Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU), has successfully repelled an attack and recovered a large cache of rustled livestock and weaponry from criminal elements.

In a statement released on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, disclosed that the breakthrough was achieved during a joint operation with military personnel. Speaking on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Abubakar noted that the security agencies remain highly determined to put a definitive end to banditry and restore lasting peace across Zamfara State.

The successful operation took place at about 2:30 AM on June 20, 2026, at the Gambanda Forest located within the Gummi Local Government Area of the state. The joint security team engaged armed bandits in a fierce gun duel, ultimately using superior firepower to force the criminals to flee deep into the forest with suspected injuries.

Following the confrontation, the tactical team combed the area and recovered 329 rustled cows, 175 sheep, one AK-47 rifle, and fifteen rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmad Muhammad Bello, commended the courage, professionalism, and resilience displayed by the operatives during the encounter. He also urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to help rid the state of criminal elements.
