2025: Gov Dauda presents N545b budget, prioritizes security, health, education

Governor Dauda Lawal has presented a proposed budget of N545,014,575,000 for the 2025 fiscal year to the Zamfara State House of Assembly, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to a pragmatic approach to financial management.

The governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, disclosed in a statement that the budget, tagged “Rescue Budget 2.0,” prioritizes critical sectors such as health, education, and security. For the first time in the state’s history, the Ministry of Health is allocated 11% of the total budget, amounting to N62.1 billion. Similarly, education receives 14% (N79.7 billion), while security accounts for 6% (N32.3 billion).

Governor Lawal emphasized the transformative vision underlying the budget. “It is a roadmap for a more prosperous, secure Zamfara. Over the past 18 months, we have achieved a 240.44% increase in revenue, elevating our state’s internal revenue generation ranking from 36th to 26th,” he said.

The governor highlighted the administration’s strides in infrastructure development, revenue reforms, and public sector efficiency. Projects such as the Gusau International Airport and ongoing investments in roads, healthcare, and agriculture reflect the administration’s strategy to bolster economic growth and improve citizens’ livelihoods.

The proposed budget comprises N151.7 billion for recurrent expenditures and N393.3 billion for capital expenditures, signaling a continued focus on developmental projects over operational costs. Governor Lawal called on stakeholders to collaborate in overcoming challenges and achieving transformative growth for Zamfara State.
