Tension as Kaura Namoda South By-Election Holds Saturday

There is heavy presence of outlawed ‘Yansakai, vigilantes, and other local fighters in Kaura Namoda South ahead of the state constituency by-election scheduled for Saturday, August 16, 2025.

Smarts News Nigeria reports that the area is tense as political parties allegedly mobilise men to rig the election or protect their interests. The election will hold in six wards, some located in hard-to-reach areas.

A resident, Malam Sani, told our reporter, “I will not even go near any polling units because my life is more important than the election.”

Many men, some masked and in tinted vehicles, were seen carrying fabricated weapons, including firearms, while top politicians moved with their security escorts.

A vegetable seller, Aminu Soja, said, “All the political parties have their thugs and have been deploying them since early today. All of them want to win the election by all means.” He lamented that politicians ignored the community’s security challenges until they needed votes.

INEC’s Information and Voter Education Officer in Zamfara, Alhaji Mukhtar Samaila, confirmed that 13 parties will participate in the election. He assured that INEC and security agencies are prepared to ensure a smooth and credible poll, with some polling units relocated to safer locations.

The by-election follows the death of the former member representing the constituency, Malam Aminu Ibrahim Kasuwar Daji of the APC, who died on April 9, 2025.
