Honourable Idris Garba Rikiji, a prominent APC stalwart and former Director General of the Zamfara State Directorate of Investment and Public-Private Partnership, has lauded the reappointment of Hajia Fatima Aliyu Shinkafi as the Executive Secretary of the Solid Minerals Development Fund (SMDF) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Rikiji, while addressing journalists in Gusau, expressed confidence in Hajia Fatima’s ability to excel in her new tenure, pointing to her impressive track record during her previous terms in various capacities. He specifically recalled her attempts to inject N2 billion into the Presidential Artisanal Gold Mining Initiative (PAGMI) in Zamfara, which was unfortunately hindered by political reasons.
He also highlighted her impactful work as Commissioner for Commerce and as Managing Director of the Zamfara Investment and Property Development Agency, where she made notable contributions, including the purchase of over 200 million Naira worth of shares in Jaiz Bank.
Rikiji emphasized that her reappointment aligns with the provisions of Section 35(2) of the Nigerian Minerals and Mining Act (NMMA) of 2007, which empowers the President to appoint the Executive Secretary of the SMDF upon the recommendation of the Minister of Solid Minerals Development. He clarified that the Act does not set term limits for the position, making her reappointment legally sound.
The APC stalwart further praised Hajia Fatima’s stewardship at the SMDF, noting the positive reforms she introduced, particularly in capital mobilization, de-risking investment tools, and targeted exploration to accelerate mine development. He described her efforts as pivotal in the ongoing drive to reposition Nigeria’s mining sector.
Rikiji also took the opportunity to acknowledge Hajia Fatima’s personal qualities, noting her dedication to duty and public service, which he attributed to her upbringing in a reputable family known for its commitment to humanity and national development.
